The transitional stage of sensory to multisensory beings
Our lives are dictated by a world that is out there, and in the out there world deals are made, lines are drawn and hierarchies are born. The 5 sensory world of what we see, feel, hear, smell and are touched by is a limited plane of understanding. It's primary formula for survival is to be in the pack, conform, or don't stray too far from the lines in the sand, and use your power to control and manipulate the world around you. The 5 sensory world is dominated by the love of power and control.
The primary weakness of this model is that it is physically focused and materially based. It's based on an old scientific model of see, hear, smell and touch, or it doesn't exist. Descartes error, so to speak was to discount the power of the mental landscape, the unseen world, and the non-ordinary realities.
If our conscious focus is on the world external world, and we allow this illusion of reality to determine our inner kingdom, then the results we see are the results we are living. What this focus does for us, is that it establishes norms of behavior, social and cultural frameworks, manufactured as a system to live by. The issue is that as we move beyond this limited paradigm, we open ourselves up to our natural self, or the empowered soul. We are not souls in bodies, we are in fact a body within a soul.
When we encountered our physically focused world for the first time, at our birth, the sudden shock of seeing, hearing, etc. is radically different than experiencing a deep knowingness, an eternal sense of all that is, with a sharp departure into limited physicality.
We then become trained or distant, as well as dismissive of our natural state, and deny the existence of aspects of the unseen, non-ordinary world of other senses, namely our 6rh sense.
Employing our 6th sense is a process in which we are connecting to our inner self, going inward and accessing intuition, wisdom and emotional awareness. Accessing inner knowing through feelings is the best way I can think of to feel your way into a building, an animal, a person, aspects of nature, etc. It can be an essential survival tool to help us feel danger, discomfort, or when something doesn't feel right. We may not know intellectually, but this heightened state of awareness can save our life!
The other amazing aspect about tuning into the world beyond the 5 senses is that of meaningful connections and letting go of past wounds. When we turn toward our multisensory selves, we being to see things with a wide angled lens...gone are the hurts of the self, and gone are the hurts we have projecting on others. We realize that no one can harm the soul, that it is untethered, and eternal, and only the personality (the frightened part) can be injured.
With our 6th sense, we create harmoniously and with intention. Our lives hold meaning, gone are the random ricocheting off the figurative pin ball machine, and action is taken with aligned motivation.
It's a beautiful to practice this way of being in the world, even though the world may not be able to hold this container. It may flip flop a bit, until more physical embodied souls calibrate to a new way of being.
I often think, in times like these, our wings have been clipped, and we have stayed too close to the ground, the material illusion of a solid foundation, and have amnesia, a longing for connection, but not remembering the way.
Meditate, create meaningful work and projects, establish a presence in your community, go outside and plunge into the deep wild, and you' ll remember your mutisensory self, while dangling in a sensory world.
